Unnecessary Reactions as a Parent of Toddlers
The other day I had an unnecessary outburst at Madison for pushing, shoving, and throwing her little brother around. Screaming so wildly as I did and putting her in timeout will not achieve anything except bring me down.
It also achieves nothing with Madison; she’s giggling and smiling following my reaction. It’s honestly bizarre and slightly frightening.
But truthfully, it tells me that I’m mistaken in my reaction.
She’s 2 1/2 years old. She’s learning, she’s playing, she gets carried away, and Hudson, 15 months her younger, has no idea and takes the brunt of it.
No one is in danger of seriously injuring themselves and losing their life. So save the theatrics for when it matters most when someone’s life or limb is on the line.
The fact that she already seems desensitized to it is problematic enough.
Just love these beautiful children and the lives you created. That’s what it’s all about.
